Remembering this Holiday Season
December 7, 1914, Pope Benedict XV asked for a temporary stay from the fighting of World War I to honor Christmas. Although no official cease-fire was agreed upon, on Christmas Eve, soldiers in the trenches declared their own unofficial truce and sang Christmas carols to each other across enemy lines. The unofficial truce continued through Christmas day with hand shaking, well-wishes, and a friendly game of soccer.
When celebrating this holiday season with family and friends,
remember our Veterans and their selfless sacrifices that secured the liberty of celebrating this Christmas possible.
